What Is Sin And Why Does God Want Us To Confess Sins?
God considers these questions key and desires for all of mankind to understand what sin is and the importance to confess sins.
Definition Of Sin
In short, sin is any thought or action that is against God and God's Word, the Bible. Sin and its consequences, death, entered into this world by Adam in the Garden of Eden. As a result of Adam being disobedient to God in the garden of Eden, Adam took on a sin nature. Because of Adam, our natural father, all of mankind inherited his sin nature (Romans 5:12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.").
God's Free Gift
God desires for us to be obedient and righteous in order for Him to have a loving relationship with us. God loves us and desires for us to be close to Him, but he is a righteous God and must separate himself from sin. Because of God's righteousness, He must destroy and punish sin. For God to remain righteous and reconcile with sinful man, He offered a free gift to mankind. This gift was His Son, Jesus Christ, who substituted Himself to be punished for our sin nature. God's loving act enable mankind to be restored in good standing with God.
We Confess Sins and Accept God's Free Gift
All that mankind is required to do to accept this free gift, is to confess sins, and
acknowledge that Jesus is our Lord and Savior (1 John 4:15, "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God."). Only through Jesus can we walk in obedience and be in right fellowship with God and with one another. Jesus Christ has cleansed us from all our sin (1 John 1:7, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. ").
Cleanse Us From All Unrighteousness
If we choose not to confess sins and that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, we cannot have a loving relationship with God. It does not matter to God why we choose not to confess our sins, be it out of ignorance, self-
